Plans

Paradoxically, this is a post in which Peter outlines his future plans for the blog.

There are several things I’m planning on posting on:

OCD
Or temptation, or whatever. I still don’t know how to interpret what happened to me. I know this is a depressing topic, but it’s something I think I could write a decent post on. Someone came here searching for it, and as it’s been quite a big thing in the last year. Although most of my blog readership know about it, I expect there’s someone out there searching for an article still.
Russian
I don’t expect this post will be that stunningly interesting, but maybe some people want to know a little bit about how I’m doing in Russian.
Holderness
Going there next week with Geography. There’ll be a write up. Unfortunately no photos taken by me, I’ll have to borrow some from other sites. Be warned webmasters! It’s a school trip, and we’ve been advised against taking anything more expensive than a disposable camera.

In which Peter is relieved of a long and annoying google search

As you can see from a very recent post, I’ve been looking for MP3 software that allows me to bookmarks specific points in an audio track. I’d been search for hours, HOURS, and nothing. Eventually, I prayed about it with my mum, and went back on line. In 20 seconds, I had found the perfect program. Foobar with this plugin.

Please be warned, however, not just any version of foobar will work. You have to use Foobar 0.8 (any subversion should do). I posted this partly because I thought Jonney might also like it, being the talented linguist he is.

Appeal

Does anyone know of a free program that can be used to add multiple bookmarks to mp3 files? This would be immensely useful in learning Russian. We have such features at Sixth Form’s language labs, via digital control of tapes, but I haven’t seen such a thing on PC except ones that are only for:

  1. Members of Indiana University
  2. Linux
  3. PDAs

My kind of cat

Never thought I’d say this, but I think I could get along with this cat.

Below Average Nerd

I am nerdier than 38% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!

My computer geek score is greater than 41% of all people in the world! How do you compare? Click here to find out!

Or perhaps it’s just very above average nerds that use that site. I expect so.

Reiterations

As you can see, I’ve made this site look better. To add to the happiness, check out this IE screenshot:
My page as viewed in Internet Explorer
It looks quite obviously glitchy. This is, of course, exactly the kind of way I want it to look. I don’t want to completely exclude Internet Explorer users, just make them feel like they’re not quite at home, if you get me. It looks fine in Opera and Firefox, and I ssume everything else too. If you are using a worthy browser, and you encounter problems, tell me.

My advice is simple: Boycott IE. It’s a cancer on the Web that must be stopped. IE isn’t secure and isn’t standards-compliant, which makes it unworkable both for end users and Web content creators. Because of their user bases, however, Web developers are hamstrung into developing for IE at the expense of established standards that work well in all other browsers. You can turn the tide by demanding more from Microsoft and by using a better alternative Web browser. I recommend and use Mozilla Firefox, but Apple Safari (Macintosh only) and Opera 8 are both worth considering as well.

I know that blockquote element looks terrible, that’s on the list of things that still need to be changed, including:

  1. Comments need to be less default
  2. Header likewise
  3. Archives need to be tweaked so they look more distinctive
  4. I need some previous post buttons at the bottom

Av’ it.

I only tried for about a minute, you can probably beat me. Have a go… or do some work:
Monkey Kick Off

Picasa 3

The new picasa is better by leaps and bounds, but it doesn’t get a different version number… Why come?

Restitution

In which anger is abated

Claire said I needed to die because I hadn’t deleted the green section of my site. Unfortunately, this wasn’t possible. It’s gone now, and the next best thing is linking to her dA page and highlighting one of her pictures:

Corpse Bride
Her whole deviantART page.

English Russia

In which Peter highlights a fantastic Russian website

English Russia was something to be admired. Please see a more recent post about it.
